Yellow-spotted snake eel

The Yellow-spotted snake eel (''Callechelys lutea'', also known as the Freckled snake eel〔(Common names of ''Callechelys lutea'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕) is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).〔(''Callechelys lutea'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by John Otterbein Snyder in 1904.〔Snyder, J. O. 1904 (19 Jan.) (4149 ) ''A catalogue of the shore fishes collected by the steamer "Albatross" about the Hawaiian Islands in 1902.'' Bulletin of the U. S. Fish Commission v. 22 (): 513-538, Pls. 1-13.〕
It is a marine, tropical eel which is known from the Hawaiian Islands, Midway Island, and the French Frigate Shoals, in the Pacific Ocean. It dwells at a depth range of , and forms burrows in sand sediments. Males can reach a maximum total length of .〔
